Short Story Competition

 

As part of the West Kirby Literary Festival and in celebration of their 100th book, the Wro Readers Book Club, in conjunction with Linghams Booksellers, invites budding writers to enter their Short Story Competition.

 

If you feel you have what it takes to be an author, then please get writing!

 

The categories are as follows:

 

  • Ages 7-11 (Key Stage 2) – 500 words
  • Ages 11-18 (Secondary) – 1000 words
  • Over 18 – 1000 words

 

Your story must be 100% original. It can be handwritten or word processed on A4 paper. The story can be on any subject, but West Kirby must feature in some way!

 

Before the Literary Festival, a specialist panel of judges will select the winners and there will be a prize giving event for finalists at Hickory’s on Monday 3rd June 2019.  Entries should be submitted by 30th April 2019.

Story Writing Competition Guidelines for Writers 

Your story must be 500 or 1000 words or under (dependent on category)

The categories are as follows:

  • Ages 7-11 (Key Stage 2) – 500 words
  • Ages 11-18 (secondary) – 1000 words
  • Over 18 – 1000 words

 

You story can be on any subject, but West Kirby must feature in some way!

The story must be your own original work

Stories will be judged on the following:

  • Originality
  • Plot
  • Characterisation
  • Language

All stories must be submitted in English.

Stories can be handwritten or word processed on A4 paper

Entries must be received by midnight on 30th April, 2019. Entries can be dropped off at Linghams in Heswall, West Kirby Library or The Wro, West Kirby

Entries must be accompanied by the application form which can be collected from Linghams in Heswall, West Kirby Library or The Wro, West Kirby or is available to download here

Children’s entries must be approved by an adult (parent, teacher or guardian) and it is their contact details that must be included on the application form

Once received an email receipt will be sent to acknowledge receipt of your story

Judging will be completed by a team of specialists and shortlisted entrants will be announced on 24th May, 2019. They will be invited to the prize giving event with dinner at Hickories in West Kirby on Monday 3rd June from 6.30pm. Each shortlisted story writer will be invited to the event with two guests

Gold, silver and bronze prizes of Linghams Gift Vouchers will be awarded in each age group.
